Impact
Hope was set up to improve the lives of street children and their families in Kolkata. So we think it is crucial to be able to show that we do exactly that. That’s why we conduct internal and external evaluations of our projects to find out how much of a difference we’re making, and to learn how we could do even better. Here are some of our results:
- Mobile clinics have provided quality health care through diagnosis, treatment and medication to 100,000 patients
- Social workers have conducted thousands of home visits, providing antenatal care and immunizations
- In it’s first year, the Hope Hospital has treated hundreds of patients who would otherwise not have received treatment from government hospitals
- Our new Vocational Training Centre has provided skills training for young people and craft cooperatives are up and running. Also, this summer we launched a rehabilitation project to help older sex workers come off the streets and so far 10 women have signed up for training
- Our Homes provide sanctuary and loving care to 300 children and our Education Coaching Centres and crèches help over 2,000 children each year
Some of the children we have helped, have now completed their education and are in good jobs, for example, one is a qualified teacher, another training to be a doctor, and one of the Howrah Station boys is an ambulance driver. We are very proud of the achievements these children have made.
