What We Do

What we do

In these pages you can find out about some
of the 60 projects we operate to help the street children of Kolkata. In our first 10 years Hope has materially affected the lives of nearly 100,000 people. Our long-term projects include:

  • A Primary Healthcare Programme. This operates 35 clinics, which in one year treats over 40,000 adults and 36,000 children. There are also 3 hospitals.
  • An Education Programme delivering coaching and pre-primary support to over 2,000 children each year, most of whom live in poverty and come from families with limited education.
  • Shelter homes which protect at-risk children including specialised centres for the rehabilitation of child addicts and HIV/AIDS infected children.
How do we prioritise our projects?
Our technical team carries out surveys and in-depth research, involving the whole community in discussions. During the implementation stage, we work closely with these community action groups, to build their skills and to share knowledge. This approach helps to foster self-reliance and participation.

All our projects are closely monitored and evaluated.
