Homes and Shelters - protection for abandoned and at risk children

Homes and shelter

A home or temporary shelter can mean the difference between life or death.

We work with local NGOs to run 8 protection homes for street children. Many of these children have been physically and physiologically abused, victims of sexual abuse and trafficking, and all are in desperate need of guidance and support.

Our homes offer these children a haven – they are given access to education, healthcare, counselling and recreational activities such as yoga, dance, excursions. They are given love and support by our dedicated staff.

We also fund a rehabilitation home for addicted children. Howrah Station, one of the biggest railway stations in Asia, has become home to many abandoned children. Solvent abuse is widespread as it is one way to deal with the realities of their lives, and survive yet another day. These children make their living jumping on the trains to collect recyclables and some are caught under the railways. Many lose limbs or have massive scars. Our home and detoxification programme places Howrath children in schools and provides vocational training. As the children grow up we help them get jobs and rent apartments.
